Why might my entry consisting of a bunch of riders on horses / convertible automobile / horse drawn wagon / etc. / filled with my friends and family be rejected?
Our mandate is to provide our viewing audience with the most effective entertainment available. Children and families who have been sitting on the curb saving their hard earned location since early in the morning expect nothing less, and don't care to see yet another horse / wagon / vehicle loaded with faces that mean nothing to them. With over 800 horses, and over 35 assorted horse drawn conveyances (on average), we attempt to select the best of the many applications received to minimize duplication. Our aim is to reward the viewers with a wide variety of colour, sound, and celebrities that will make for a memorable Stampede experience. Your best chance of being accepted is through being the best example of your type of entry, or by attempting something completely new and exciting.
How do I enter a marching band in the Stampede Parade?
Contact the Visiting Bands Committee.
Why are there so many names required as Additional Insured on the insurance certificate?
The Stampede Parade Committee is one of many volunteer groups that fall under the umbrella of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. We form up a large portion of our entries on the Fort Calgary site, and also host participant oriented festivities on their grounds. Additional form-up locations, and the parade itself, require access to City of Calgary administered facilities. For this reason, all three entities must be named as "Additional Insured".
Why are handouts prohibited in the main parade?
In order to execute a parade of this size, and with the variety of entrants involved, we need to provide an open travel lane on each side of the parade for operations and emergency vehicles. Because these vehicles are constantly circulating on the route from both directions, we do not want to tempt our spectators off of the curb to pick up candies (or other giveaways) or to interact with clowns and mascots. The Parade Prelude is a more relaxed and slower moving opportunity to showcase these types of entrants.
